Moors Valley is the perfect location to plan a Schools Event so I was more than happy to volunteer for the job, plus it is also on my doorstep as I am walking or cycling in it every day when I take George (the dog) for a walk/ run.
Moors Valley also has a great permanent course which caters for a wide range of abilities so I decided to use as many of these controls as I could – it also meant that it was easier to put out the controls as didn’t have to carry around 26 stakes and also for those who very kindly collected them all in. I would like to say a big ‘thankyou’ to Richard Brightman for helping me put them out and Trevor, Chris Turner, Roger Crickmore, Becky Whittingham, Richard and Diggory (with Grace on bike) who collected them in.
We were very lucky with the weather on the day as earlier in the week it was wet and windy. The children started coming from 2 o’clock and we seem to have a record number of participants at 150 who all appeared to have a great time and there are lots of photos to prove this. I must apologise to all those looking through the ones that Steve Mallinson took that there are quite a lot of our youngest, Alice who he was babysitting and who adores him.
It is always a challenge planning a score course as you want to give the younger children the ability to get enough points and controls without getting lost and the very good runners to hopefully get all the controls just within the one hour time slot. On Friday Jack Benham managed to visit all the controls with 25 seconds to spare, so I guess I got it right.
